A warning light may illuminate when a problem exists with one of your vehicle’s functions.

Many lights will illuminate when you start your vehicle to make sure the bulb works. If any light remains on after starting the vehicle, have the respective system inspected immediately. Service engine soon Illuminates briefly to ensure the system is functional. If it comes on after the engine is started, one of the engine’s emission control systems may be malfunctioning.

Instrument Cluster Check fuel cap Illuminates when the fuel cap is not installed correctly. Check the fuel cap for proper installation. When the fuel filler cap is properly re-installed, the light(s) will turn off after a period of normal driving. Continuing to operate the vehicle with the check fuel cap light on, or a mis-installed fuel cap can activate the Service Engine Soon/Check Engine warning light.

Instrument Cluster malfunctioned and is disabled, however, the normal brake system will still function unless the brake warning light also remains illuminated and parking brake is off. Engine coolant temperature gauge Indicates the temperature of the engine coolant. At normal operating temperature, the needle remains within the normal area (the area between the “H” and “C”). If it enters the red section, the engine is overheating. Stop the vehicle as soon as safely possible, switch off the engine immediately and let the engine cool.

Instrument Cluster Battery voltage gauge Indicates battery voltage. If the pointer moves and stays outside the normal operating range, have the vehicle’s electrical system checked as soon as possible. Fuel gauge Displays approximately how much fuel is in the fuel tank. The fuel gauge may vary slightly when the vehicle is in motion or on a grade.

Instrument Cluster Trip odometer Registers the kilometers (miles) of individual journeys. Press and release the reset button until a ’T’ P RN appears in the display (this represents the trip mode). Press and hold the button for three seconds to reset. Tachometer (if equipped) Indicates the engine speed in revolutions per minute.

Radio data system (RDS) feature This feature allows your audio system to receive station identification or program type from RDS-equipped FM radio station. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Canadian Radio and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) recommend FM radio broadcasters to use RDS technology to transmit information.

Entertainment Systems Starting autoset memory preset 1. Select a frequency using the AM/FM select controls. 2. Press the AUTO control. 3. When the first six strong stations are filled, the station stored in memory preset control 1 will start playing. If there are less than six strong stations available on the frequency band, the remaining memory preset controls will all store the last strong station available.

Tune adjust for CD changer • Press to select the previous disc in the CD changer. (Play will begin on the first track of the disc unless the CD changer is in shuffle mode.) Refer to Shuffle feature for more information. Hold the control to continue reversing through the discs.

Shuffle feature The shuffle feature operates in CD mode and plays all tracks on the current disc in random order. If equipped with the CD changer, the shuffle feature continues to the next disc after all tracks are played. Press the SHUFFLE control to start this feature. Random order play will continue until the SHUFFLE control is pressed again.

Entertainment Systems • Use the SEL control to select ON or OFF. With the feature on, use the SEEK or SCAN control to find a radio station broadcasting a traffic report (if it is broadcasting RDS data). Traffic information is not available in most U.S. markets. Program type •.

Entertainment Systems ADJUSTING THE VOLUME Press the + control to increase volume. Press the - control to decrease volume. From the rear seat controls, volume control can be set no higher than the current radio setting unless the speakers are turned off. Refer to Turning speakers on and off.

MODE SELECT Push the MODE control to toggle between AM, FM1, FM2, tape, CD or CD changer (if equipped). MEMORY PRESET CONTROL Push the MEMORY control successively to allow rear seat passengers to scroll through the 6 memory presets in AM, FM1 or FM2.

Entertainment Systems CD CHANGER (IF EQUIPPED) The CD changer is in one of the following locations: • behind the passenger’s seat (Regular Cab only) • in the center console (SuperCab/SuperCrew with Captain’s chairs) • under the rear bench on the driver’s side (see instructions below) (SuperCab with bench seats) •.

• Station overload. Weak signals are sometimes captured by stronger signals when you pass a broadcast tower. A stronger signal may temporarily overtake a weaker signal and play while the weak station frequency is displayed. The audio system automatically switches to single channel reception if it will improve the reception of a station normally received in stereo.

Climate Controls HEATER ONLY SYSTEM (IF EQUIPPED) COOL Fan speed control Controls the volume of air circulated in the vehicle. Temperature control knob Controls the temperature of the airflow inside the vehicle. On heater-only systems, the air cannot be cooled below the outside temperature. Mode selector control Controls the direction of the airflow to the inside of the vehicle.

• To reduce humidity buildup inside the vehicle, do not drive with the climate control system in the OFF position. • Under normal weather conditions, your vehicle’s climate control system should be left in any position other than OFF position when the vehicle is parked.

Climate Controls Temperature control knob Controls the temperature of the airflow inside the vehicle. Mode Selector Control Controls the direction of the airflow to the inside of the vehicle. The air conditioning compressor can operate in all modes except PANEL and FLOOR.

• FLOOR – Allows for maximum heating by distributing outside air through the floor ducts. However, the air will not be cooled below the outside temperature because the air conditioning does not operate in this mode. • FLR & DEF – Distributes outside air through the windshield defroster ducts and the floor ducts.

Climate Controls • Do not put objects under the front seat which may interfere with the airflow to the rear seats (if equipped). • Remove any snow, ice or leaves from the air intake area (at the bottom of the windshield and underneath the hood). •.

Climate Controls Turning the EATC system off Press OFF. The outside temperature function will continue to operate until the ignition is turned off. AUTOMATIC FLR • DEF Automatic operation Press AUTOMATIC and select the desired temperature. The selected temperature and the word AUTO will appear in the display window. The EATC system will either heat or cool to achieve the selected temperature.

Climate Controls To control the temperature, select any temperature between 18°C (65°F) and 29°C (85°F) by pressing the blue (cooler) or red (warmer) buttons. For continuous maximum cooling, push the blue button until 16°C (60°F) is shown in the display window. The EATC will continue maximum cooling (disregarding the displayed temperature) until a warmer temperature is selected by pressing the red control.

The display will show indicate manual fan operation. To return to automatic fan operation, press AUTOMATIC. Manual override controls The manual override controls allow you to determine where airflow is directed. To return to full automatic control, press AUTOMATIC. The air conditioning compressor can operate in all modes except FLOOR and VENT.

Climate Controls in this mode. The air will be heated or cooled based on the temperature selection. For added customer comfort, the air distributed through the floor ducts will be slightly warmer than the air sent to the windshield defroster ducts. If the temperature is about 6°C (43°F) or higher, the air conditioner will automatically dehumidify the air to reduce fogging.

• To reduce humidity buildup inside the vehicle in cold weather conditions, don’t drive with the climate control system in the OFF or MAX A/C position. • To reduce humidity buildup inside the vehicle in warm weather conditions, don’t drive with the climate control system in the OFF position. •.

Lights HEADLAMP CONTROL Rotate the headlamp control to the first position to turn on the parking lamps. Rotate to the second position to turn on the headlamps. Autolamp control (if equipped) The autolamp system provides light sensitive automatic on-off control of the exterior lights normally controlled by the headlamp control.

Daytime running lamps (DRL) (if equipped) Turns the headlamps on with a reduced output. To activate: • the ignition must be in the ON position and • the headlamp control is in the OFF, parking lamp or autolamp position. Always remember to turn on your headlamps at dusk or during inclement weather.

Lights PANEL DIMMER CONTROL Use to adjust the brightness of the instrument panel and all applicable switches in the vehicle during headlamp and parklamp operation. Move the control to the full upright position, past detent, to turn on the interior lamps. Move the control to the full down position, past detent, to prevent the interior lights from illuminating when the doors are opened.

INTERIOR LAMPS Map lamps To turn on the map lamps, press the control next to each lamp. If equipped with a moon roof, the map lamps are located on the moon roof control panel. Press the control next to the map lamp to illuminate the lamp.

Lights Courtesy/reading lamps The courtesy lamp lights when: • any door is opened. • the instrument panel dimmer switch is held up until the courtesy lamps come on. • the remote entry controls are pressed and the ignition is OFF. The reading lamps can be turned on by pressing the rocker controls next to each lamp.

Using the right bulbs Replacement bulbs are specified in the chart below. Headlamp bulbs must be marked with an authorized “D.O.T.” for North America and an “E” for Europe to assure lamp performance, light brightness and pattern and safe visibility. The correct bulbs will not damage the lamp assembly or void the lamp assembly warranty and will provide quality bulb burn time.

Lights 6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the bulb by pulling rearward. 7. Remove bulb retainer ring by turning it counterclockwise, then slide the ring off the plastic base. 8. Without turning, carefully pull bulb assembly out of headlamp assembly and replace. Handle a halogen headlamp bulb carefully and keep out of children’s reach.

Lights Replacing front parking lamp/turn signal bulbs 1. Remove screw from the lamp assembly. 2. Disengage lamp assembly (it has a snap fit) by pulling straight forward. 3. Remove bulb socket from the parking lamp assembly by turning it counterclockwise. 4.

Lights Replacing tail/brake/turn signal/backup lamp bulbs The tail/brake/turn signal and backup lamp bulbs are located in the tail lamp assembly, one just below the other. Follow the same steps to replace either bulb: 1. If equipped, remove tail lamp covers. 2.

Lights Replacing foglamp bulbs (if equipped) 1. Remove the bulb socket from the foglamp by turning counterclockwise. 2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the foglamp bulb. 3. Connect the new foglamp bulb to the electrical connector. 4. Install the bulb socket in the foglamp by turning clockwise. Replacing signal mirror lamp bulbs (if equipped) For bulb replacement, see a dealer or qualified technician.

Driver Controls WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER CONTROLS Rotate the windshield wiper control to the desired interval, low or high speed position. The bars of varying length are for intermittent wipers. When in this position rotate the control upward for fast intervals and downward for slow intervals.

Driver Controls 1. Pull the wiper arm away from the windshield and lock into the service position. 2. Turn the blade at an angle from the wiper arm. Push the lock pin manually to release the blade and pull the wiper blade down toward the windshield to remove it from the arm.

Driver Controls ILLUMINATED VISOR MIRROR (IF EQUIPPED) Lift the mirror cover to turn on the visor mirror lamps. OVERHEAD CONSOLE (IF EQUIPPED) The appearance of your vehicle’s overhead console will vary according to your option package. Storage compartment (if equipped) Press the OPEN control to open the storage compartment.

Driver Controls 1. Remove the storage clip from the door. 2. Place Velcro hook onto side of aftermarket transmitter opposite of actuator control. 3. Place the transmitter into storage compartment, control down. 4. Place the provided height adaptors onto the back of the GARAGE control as needed.

Driver Controls Electronic compass/temperature display (if equipped) Outside air temperature The outside temperature display is contained in the overhead console unless the vehicle is equipped with an EATC system. Refer to Electric automatic temperature control in the Climate controls chapter. The temperature display can be turned off and on by pressing the SELECT control on the overhead.

Compass zone adjustment 1. Determine which magnetic zone you are in by referring to the zone map. 2. Turn the ignition to the ON position. 3. Press and hold the SELECT control until VAR appears in the display, then release. The display should show the current zone number.

Driver Controls AUXILIARY POWER POINT Power outlets are designed for accessory plugs only. Do not hang any type of accessory or accessory bracket from the plug. Improper use of the power outlet can cause damage not covered by your warranty. The auxiliary power point is located on the instrument panel.

• Rear audio controls • Power point Use only soft cups in the cupholder. Hard objects can injure you in a collision. OVERDRIVE CONTROL Activating overdrive (Overdrive) is the normal drive position for the best fuel economy. The overdrive function allows automatic upshifts and downshifts through all available gears.

Driver Controls POWER WINDOWS (IF EQUIPPED) Press and hold the rocker switches to open and close windows. • Press the top portion of the rocker switch to close. • Press the bottom portion of the rocker switch to open. One touch down •.

MIRRORS Automatic dimming rear view mirrors (if equipped) Your vehicle is equipped with an inside rear view mirror with an auto-dimming function. The electronic day/night mirror will change from the normal state to the non-glare state when bright lights (glare) reach the inside rear view mirror.

Driver Controls 2. Move the control in the direction you wish to tilt the mirror. 3. Return to the center position to lock mirrors in place. 4. Adjust spotter mirrors (if equipped) manually. Signal mirrors (if equipped) When the turn signal is activated, the outer portion of the appropriate mirror housing will blink red.

The adjustment allows for approximately 76 mm (3 inches) of maximum travel. Never adjust the accelerator and brake pedal with feet on pedals or while the vehicle is moving. SPEED CONTROL (IF EQUIPPED) To turn speed control on • Press ON. Vehicle speed cannot be controlled until the vehicle is traveling at or above 48 km/h (30 mph).

Driver Controls To set a speed • Press SET ACCEL. For speed control to operate, the speed control must be ON and the vehicle speed must be greater than 48 km/h (30 mph). If you drive up or down a steep hill, your vehicle speed may vary momentarily slower or faster than the set speed.

To set a lower set speed • Press and hold COAST. Release the control when the desired speed is reached or • Press and release COAST to operate the Tap-Down function. Each press will decrease the set speed by 1.6 km/h (1 mph) or •.

Driver Controls • Depress the clutch pedal (if equipped). Disengaging the speed control will not erase the previously programmed set speed. Pressing OFF will erase the previously programmed set speed. To return to a previously set speed • Press RES. For RES to operate, the vehicle speed must be faster than 48 km/h (30 mph).

ONE-TOUCH MOON ROOF (IF EQUIPPED) • To open, press and release the rear portion of the moon roof control. • To close, press and hold (as desired) the front portion of the moon roof control. • To halt motion at any point during one-touch opening, press the control a second time.

Driver Controls Retain the original transmitter for use in other vehicles as well as for future programming procedures (i.e. new HomeLink equipped vehicle purchase). It is also suggested that upon the sale of the vehicle, the programmed Homelink Universal Transceiver buttons be erased for security purposes, refer to Programming in this section.

Driver Controls device should activate when the HomeLink button is pressed and released. Note: To program the remaining two HomeLink buttons, begin with step 2 in the “Programming” section — do not repeat step 1. If the red light blinks rapidly for two seconds and then turns to a continuous red, proceed with steps 6 through 8 to complete programming of a rolling code equipped device.

Driving With the ABS light on, the anti-lock brake system is disabled and normal braking is still effective unless the brake warning light also remains illuminated with parking brake released. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OPERATION (IF EQUIPPED) Brake-shift interlock This vehicle is equipped with a brake-shift interlock feature that prevents the gearshift lever from being moved from P (Park) when the ignition is in the ON position unless the brake pedal is depressed. If you cannot move the gearshift lever out of P (Park) with ignition in the ON position and the brake pedal depressed: 1.

Driving slopes or hills. A danger lies in losing traction, slipping sideways and possibly rolling over. Whenever driving on a hill, determine beforehand the route you will use. Do not drive over the crest of a hill without seeing what conditions are on the other side. Do not drive in reverse over a hill without the aid of an observer.

If you nevertheless decide to equip your 4WD for off-road use with tires larger than what Ford Motor Company recommends, you should not use these tires for highway driving. If you use any tire/wheel combination not recommended by Ford Motor Company, it may adversely affect vehicle handling and could cause steering, suspension, axle or transfer case failure.

Failure to follow tire pressure recommendations can adversely affect the way your vehicle handles. Do not exceed the Ford Motor Company recommended pressure even if it is less than the maximum pressure allowed for the tire.

Ford Motor Company recommends that caution be used with any vehicle equipped with a high load or device (such as ladder racks or pickup box cover).

The GVWR is specific to each vehicle and is listed on the Safety Certification Label on the driver’s door pillar. • GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating): Carrying capacity for each axle system. Driving Always ensure that the weight of occupants, cargo and equipment being carried is within the weight limitations that have been established for your vehicle including both gross vehicle weight and front and rear gross axle weight rating limits. Your vehicle’s load capacity is designated by weight, not by volume, so you cannot necessarily use all available space when loading a vehicle. Towing a trailer places an additional load on your vehicle’s engine, transmission, axle, brakes, tires and suspension. Roadside Emergencies Preparing your vehicle When the battery is disconnected or a new battery is installed, the transmission must relearn its shift strategy. As a result, the transmission may have firm and/or soft shifts. This operation is considered normal and will not affect function or durability of the transmission.

However, for severe usage or in high temperature climates, check the battery electrolyte level. Refer to the scheduled maintenance guide for the service interval schedules.

Maintenance and Specifications When lifting a plastic-cased battery, excessive pressure on the end walls could cause acid to flow through the vent caps, resulting in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or battery. ENGINE COOLANT Checking engine coolant The concentration and level of engine coolant should be checked at the mileage intervals listed in the scheduled maintenance guide.

Maintenance and Specifications When the engine is cold, check the level of the engine coolant in the reservoir. • The engine coolant should be at the “cold fill level” or within the “cold fill range” as listed on the engine coolant reservoir (depending upon application).

• Do not add extra inhibitors or additives to the coolant. These can be harmful and compromise the corrosion protection of the engine coolant. • Do not mix with recycled coolant unless from a Ford-approved recycling process (see Use of Recycled engine coolant section).

Maintenance and Specifications For vehicles with overflow coolant systems with a non-pressurized cap on the coolant recovery system, add coolant to the coolant recovery reservoir when the engine is cool. Add the proper mixture of coolant and water to the “cold full” level. For all other vehicles, which have a coolant degas system with a pressurized cap, or if it is necessary to remove the coolant pressure relief cap on the radiator of a vehicle with an overflow system, follow these steps to add engine coolant.

Maintenance and Specifications Recycled engine coolant Ford Motor Company recommends the use of a recycled engine coolant produced by Ford-approved processes in vehicles originally equipped with Motorcraft Premium Engine Coolant (green-colored). However, not all coolant recycling processes produce coolant that meets Ford specification ESE-M97B44–A.

Maintenance and Specifications • Decreased engine coolant concentrations below 40% will decrease the corrosion protection characteristics of the engine coolant and may cause engine damage. • Decreased engine coolant concentrations below 40% will decrease the freeze protection characteristics of the engine coolant and may cause engine damage.

Maintenance and Specifications Once the engine temperature cools, the engine can be re-started. Take your vehicle to a service facility as soon as possible to minimize engine damage. If you have run out of fuel: • You may need to cycle the ignition from OFF to ON several times after refueling, to allow the fuel system to pump the fuel from the tank to the engine.

Ford stopped imprinting fuse locations and assignments on box covers before 1998, and if you do not have the owner's manual, you have to buy a shop manual or find it on the internet.

The fuse numbers are on the under side of the engine bay fuse box cover.
The cover is removable so you can see them better.
You do have to know what number fuse your after per the owner manual.
Not every truck 'build' has the same fuse assignments.

Who wants the 97-03 Factory Repair Manual?, 2002 ford f150 owners manual

Up front I will apologize for the long winded explanation.

To those of you that had a problem with all of the files not extracted, there is a way to get them from the original *.zip file.

First thing you need to do is change the file view settings in folder options so that file extensions are visible. You can change it back later.

Starting with the original Ford_F150_1997-2003_1231.zip file, navigate to the document that did not extract, I will use the Remove-Install-Overhaul.pdf file as an example.

Open the file. Once the file is open in Acrobat Reader, click save. There may be a dialog box that states that you cannot make changes to a Reader file and that you will only be saving a copy, click "OK". Select the destination of the file to be saved (I chose the same folder in the directory that I saved the manual to), click save.

Navigate to the location you saved the file and it may still show up as non-pdf file with the extension *.pd (About half of them did), right click the file and select "Rename". Change the file extension from .pd to .pdf and hit the "Enter" button. The file will now be a valid PDF file that can now be viewed.

After I typed this, I discovered that some of the files just need to be renamed and add the extension .pdf at the end and all is good. In this case, you definitely need to set your folder settings to make file extensions visible or you may wind up with files that have .pdf.pdf which will definitely break them.

The most likely reason this happens is that there is a character limit (It looks to be 25 characters) to a file name with the algorithm that the extractor uses, thus cutting off a portion of the files name and the extension which leads to a file type unrecognizable by the computer.

Try both methods and determine which one works in your case.

Yea, large download, took 5 minutes or so. Then I went thru it real quick. Well, I should mention I have all service DVD's 96- 2006, and I'm somewhat familiar with things. Wasn't going to download at first, -glad I did!

This download is definitely Ford Service and accurate. - It's a little different being quite a bit more user friendly. VERY easy getting to where you want to go lol. From what I can see, the tech data and trouble shooting per service scanner has been weeded out. Well, most of it. That's good as we can't use that info anyway.

Other differences, all good from I can see so far.

Just get it while you can. I know I'm going to use it, - as the first go to lol.
