Great running car, comfort, and styling. I got to ride shotgun and couldn't believe how low the seats are compared with the driver. Hyundai should be lower to get better headroom measurements.

Hyundai’s New Virtual Owners Manual Means No Glovebox Fumbling, 2011 hyundai sonata owners manual
To get car information into the hands of drivers faster and more easily, Hyundai has reinvented the owner's manual using Augmented Reality for the Hyundai Virtual Guide app.
Augmented Reality overlays a smartphone's or tablet's camera image with words and links to learn about what is shown on the screen.
Instead of fumbling through an owner's manual book, a car owner points a camera at the dash, instrument cluster, or engine to discover its functions and how it works.
While some manufacturers have moved their owner's manuals from paper to CD- or DVD-ROM, Hyundai is the first mainstream automaker to launch an augmented reality owner's manual app. The Hyundai Virtual Guide app allows consumers to use their smartphone or tablet to get how-to information for repairs, maintenance, and vehicle features. The new app, available later this year, recognizes more than 45 major features of the Hyundai Sonata.
Once the Virtual Guide app is downloaded to the owner's smartphone or tablet, the user holds the camera over the instrument cluster or dash where words appear, describing the lights icons or buttons. Then the user taps on the function to learn more.
"Most people enjoy playing with their phones. The Virtual Guide app makes it easy for them to see what an indicator light means," said Michael Deitz, senior group manager for Blue Link and owner marketing at Hyundai. He says that the app saves time because owners don't have to take out the manual and look at the index to find what they are looking for.
Automotive controls, warning lights, and safety features are things that to an average consumer can be daunting. The virtual guide is designed to help and be intuitive.
"It's a great way for our customers to learn how to use their cars. We understand that for some people radio presets or phone pairing can be a challenge. We've now made it easier than ever because with your phone you click on audio and it will take you to a YouTube video that gives you step-by-step instructions on `How do I pair my phone with the vehicle'," said Deitz.
The Virtual Guide helps the user find the oil dipstick, the window washer fluid, and coolant and explains what those levels mean. It shows how to check the oil and how to read the dipstick, including wiping it with a cloth. Hyundai says it used consumer survey results to discover the features users found the most difficult to use or were the most confused about. The app was designed put the features into "small, easy-to-understand bites of information." For cars with spare tires, the guide shows how to change a tire; for Hyundai models without a spare tire, the guide shows how to use the "Tire Mobility Kit."
The Virtual Guide app contains 82 how-to videos, six 3D overlay images that appear once users scan areas of their vehicle like the engine bay, and more than 50 informational guides. It does not contain the entire user's manual. For more complex information, the user may still need to consult the user's manual. However, the Hyundai Sonata user's manual can be downloaded as HTML files and viewed on most devices.
At launch, the Hyundai Virtual Guide is compatible with the 2015 Sonata model, and will also be available for additional models such as the 2016 Sonata, Santa Fe, Tucson, Veloster, Accent, Genesis, and Genesis Coupe. The new 2017 Elantra will be the first model year for the Elantra series to offer the Virtual Guide App. The app will be available for free download on the Apple App store and Google Play.
The Virtual Guide app is separate from the Hyundai Blue Link apps for smartphones, smart watches or Apple Watch which perform remote features such as remote start, door lock/unlock, honking, or vehicle locating.

The big surprise during the Hyundai Equus reveal today at today's New York Auto Show was the automaker's announcement that it would supply each new Equus owner with a "multimedia tablet" to replace the owner's manual. While Hyundai USA president John Krafcik didn't explicitly say that the device in question will be an Apple iPad, the image presented above unquestionably the company's latest gadget. Of course, there's no guarantee that the Hyundai tablet will actually be an Apple product by the time the Equus hits dealers this fall.
The idea behind the tablet is to not only replace the traditional owner's manual – a costly book that's grown increasingly more difficult to navigate with the exponential increase in features, particularly in luxury vehicles – but to handle customer/dealer interactions like scheduling service appointments.
Although the iPad (hitting retailers and pre-orderers' mailboxes this Saturday) is the biggest player in the yet-to-be-tested tablet segment, there are several other manufacturers building slate-like devices for consumers. Dell, JooJoo and others have their own units in the works, but Apple is easily the stand-out. for now.

Digital tablets offer countless benefits over traditional booklets
Hyundai 's recentannouncement that its new flagship Equus luxury sedan. expectedto start at about $55,000 with standard 8-cylinder power, would arriveequipped with a "digital tablet"-instead of a traditional owner'smanual-shouldn't surprise anyone. New cars and trucks on sale today arefitted with some of the most advanced electronics available, yet theseldom-used printed owner's manual seems like a relic in today'selectronic world filled with PDA's, cell phones, in-car navigationsystems, and multimedia interface systems like Audi's MMI � ,Mercedes-Benz COMAND �. and BMW's iDrive � controller.
Two decades ago, before the proliferation of GPS navigation systems,Bluetooth phone connectivity, and versatile, in-car infotainmentsystems, the owner's manual was simply a hundred-page technicalreference guide that one might check for the proper tire pressure,correct oil viscosity, or guidance on other user-serviceablemaintenance items. Most cars operated nearly identically, with theexception of a few manufacturer-specific details. Owners glanced at themanual on delivery day, and then it was lost within a sea of paperworkthat inevitably filled the glove box.
Today, even the most basic car is seemingly more advanced than NASA'sSpace Shuttle. The owner's manual (or manuals, as is often the case)not only has to cover basic vehicle operation, but is tasked withcovering warranty details, recommended service schedules, and operatinginstructions for the numerous electronic devices that control nearlyevery function of today's cars and trucks. No longer a thin,easy-to-handle paperback-today's printed owner's manuals aremini-encyclopedias that are often stored in thick packets in the trunkas glove boxes have become increasingly smaller over time.
Further confusing things, software on late-model vehicles-like theoperating system on a home computer-is often updated at regular serviceintervals. These updates may make the information in printed owner'smanual dated, or obsolete.
Hyundai's approach is notunexpected. New-vehicle buyers are comfortable with state-of-the-artdigital electronic items such as tablet PCs, Netbooks and e-readers. Infact, it's not uncommon for most consumers to carry amultimedia-enabled smartphone with Internet access around with them atall times, so educating new Equus owners on how to use the multimediatablet technology, which may be Apple's new iPad, shouldn't be a bighurdle.
Electronic owner's manuals offer several advantages over their printedcounterparts. First, the digitally-encoded information may easily besearched from a keyword or phrase rather than by searching through anindex. Second, pictures are more detailed and larger (with zoomfeatures) and may in the future be replaced by "how-to" videos thatdemonstrate various basic maintenance operations such checking engineoil levels. Lastly, a wireless-capable electronic owner's manual isnever obsolete-manufacturers will be able to automatically upload thelatest versions to all owners (across the country) at the touch of abutton.
Furthermore, many late-model cars are equipped with wirelesscommunication systems built into their on-board electronics. Althoughprimarily designed for safety alerts or concierge services, it wouldn'tbe difficult for the software to send service or maintenance noticesdirectly to an electronic tablet in real-time so owners couldconveniently schedule service appointments at the touch of a button.Plus, there are also standard built-in benefits of wireless access totraffic reports, weather updates, and vehicle navigation through alarge color flat-screen interface.
The printed owner's manual may be obsolete, but there is no reason tomourn its passing. In addition to saving more trees, the digital tabletis a much more intuitive and user friendly interface that offerscountless benefits to automakers and consumers alike. Hyundai may bethe first to deliver this technology, but they certainly won't be the last.

- 360-degree exterior and interior imagery of the Equus, customer-controlled view selection with clickable feature hot-spot links

Beyond the immersive owner’s manual, the Equus App delivers Equus At Your Service, an industry-first on-line vehicle service scheduling capability with valet service for Equus owners.
